STAKING STANDARD ROSESIt cannot be overstressed that to ensure the longevity of your standard roses, they must be securely staked - the bamboo stake which you buy with the rose is totally inadequate over the long term. We use and recommend steel stakes! The stake should be 1.8 metres long which will allow between 20-30 cms of stake to protrude beyond the graft - very important when the head becomes established because it offers support, especially in high winds. Staking standard and weeping roses should be done at the time of planting!!!! Don't make this very important task a 'gunna do' job because you cannot replace an established standard rose overnight. Please heed this warning and factor the cost of the stakes into the total budget for your garden plans! |

Besides, have you noticed how fabulous standard roses look in a garden where they've been beautifully staked? For a minor cost and effort, make your garden stand out and make people stop and take a second look … you'll love the results! |

Healthy RosesOrganically, Naturally!!At Silkie Gardens Rose Nursery in Kilmore, we have found we are able to consistently produce healthy roses just as nature intended, naturally! Successful organic rose gardening isn't that difficult and the rewards in terms of stronger colour and fragrance together with increased natural resistance to disease makes it well worth the little extra effort involved. The Secret of our success lies in ensuring the nutrition of our plants is in balance as well as being adequate. We work with nature using organic based products. Our aim is to grow plants with high levels of vigour rather than trying to make them grow fast. The key ingredient in our program starting from potting is our superior quality organic based fertilizer with trace elements. This fertilizer creates the natural balance required to achieve the high vigour and disease resistance needed for better colour, length of flowering season and better vase life. To ensure consistent growth, the fertilizer should be applied year round at the rate of one half-handful (¼ cup) per plant every 8 weeks. As part of our ongoing maintenance program, we use 'NATRAKELP' naturally processed liquid seaweed and 'ECO-OIL' botanical oil concentrate made from Canola, eucalyptus and Melaleuca plants. Our recipe is simple and safe … TO 5 LITRES WATER ADD: 2-4 CAPFULS NATRAKELP & 1 CAPFUL ECO-OILMix well and spray or pour over leaves to runoff no less than once a month or more frequently at critical period of the season, or if disease or pests begin to appear. WE RECOMMEND APPLICATION BE CARRIED OUT PRIOR TO 10:00am We work on the basis that the healthier the plant, the greater its natural resistance to disease and pests and tolerance to stress. A healthy, well nourished plant will grow well without being pushed. Australia's best plant tonic is liquid seaweed, made from Tasmanian bull kelp. Natrakelp Liquid Seaweed has been shown to increase yields in ornamental horticulture and home gardening. When used as part of a blanced plant nutrition program, plants have displayed: Improved nutrient uptake, Increased root development and Stronger stem growth. Why not try it our way? … 100% organically, naturally!! |

PRESENTED BY: HAMISH MACKAY & JOHN PRIESTLY BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE AUSTRALIA bdoffice@biodynamics.net.au - www.biodynamics.net.au
The word ‘biodynamics' is used to describe a simple method of using organic material to make humus for the soil. Nature's humus has the wonderful ability to retain moisture in the soil essential for dry periods which we experience in Australia . The soil microbes applied in biodynamics produce healthy soil which is the basis for vigorous plants, crops, animals and people! “We require only 10% of our productive, degraded lands to absorb the estimated 6.1 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide emissions to make a carbon negative world possible in our lifetime”. Come along to this Seminar to learn how you can make a genuine difference to the earth by introducing simple biodynamic principles in your garden! This is a wonderful opportunity to have two stimulating presenters share their knowledge and experiences with all of us … don't miss this …
